There are so many AMAZING lines in this one. Hot take: I love this episode. It's peak campy, it's so perfectly of the era, there are wonderful character moments. Also, fun fact, this episode premiered on my 16th birthday.
Jenny Calendar- we love you, 90's icon. I want "techno pagan" on a shirt. Was anyone else expecting "If you're not jacked in" to be followed by "you're jacked off"? @kayteetrudeau I know you thought it. I don't know why but "Stay away from Willow, it's none of your business" made me laugh so hard.
Willow's self possessed anger after getting catfished is wonderful. Giles' ode to books made me swoon.
Did we get a 2001: A Space Odyssey reference? The kid who defies Moloch in computer form is named Dave and I feel like they did everything but have Moloch say "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that". Plus the episode title plays on Tarzan (a little nod to the opening scene of 2001?).
Here are some more episode fun facts directly copy / pasted from the Buffy Wiki:
"I Robot, You Jane" features the first appearance of Jenny Calendar. Although her first name is not mentioned, the script called her Nicki. However, the name was then changed to avoid confusion on the set, where the cast and crew all called Nicholas Brendon by his nickname, "Nicky."[2]
In the library, Giles is listening to a radio report about computer problems at the Vatican. The announcer on the radio is Joss Whedon.
The name Moloch (a traditional Hebrew name for demons) was picked as an Easter egg reference to computer programmers. In C-based languages, there is a function named "malloc" (short for "memory allocate"). Since the episode makes many references to computers and the internet, the name is a fitting call-out.
